Guaranteed Entry
The University has set in place a guaranteed entry policy for high-achieving school leavers considering progressing to a graduate professional entry degree. MSLE requires students to complete their bachelor degree with a weighted average of 70% to qualify for guaranteed entry into our professional masters degrees (excludes the Master of Environment, Master of Agribusiness, and Master of Wine Technology & Viticulture). Honours Programs
Entry requirements for Honours vary by course and are detailed in the Handbook
Indicative criteria:
a recognised Bachelor degree in a relevant discipline
a weighted average of 70% or greater in second and third year subjects in the major
OR
be a final year bachelor student progressing to achieving both these requirements in the coming semester.

In addition to your formal application (links above) please submit an accompanying Honours Project Proposal to the MSLE Student Centre, located on the ground floor of Building 142, Parkville Campus.
Graduate Coursework
We offer Certificates, Diplomas and Masters by coursework that will help you establish or develop your professional skills and knowledge. If you have any questions about your qualifications and whether they meet the entry requirements for the course you are interested in, contact the MSLE Student Centre.
Indicative criteria:
- An honours degree
- OR a bachelor degree (usually in a relevant discipline) with a weighted average of 65% or above
- OR a graduate/postgraduate diploma (usually in a relevant discipline)

Graduate Access Melbourne
Alternate entry criteria may apply if you have had personal circumstances that have had a sustained adverse effect on your undergraduate academic achievement or if you are a member of a specified group known to be under-represented in higher education.

Advanced Standing/Credit
If you have completed an Honours degree, or prior relevant graduate coursework such as a Graduate Certificate or Diploma, you may be eligible to progress more quickly through your Masters degree by being awarded credit for prior study.
Applications for advanced standing/credit will be assessed on a case-by-case basis. The University of Melbourne Advanced Standing Policy defines the guidelines for the application, assessment and awarding of Advanced standing/Credit for prior learning.

Graduate Research
Master of Philosophy (MPhil) or Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)
The minimum entry requirement for the MPhil and PhD is an Australian four-year honours degree, or its equivalent, in a relevant discipline with a minimum overall average grade equivalent to an H2A (75%) grade achieved at the University of Melbourne.
Applicants who do not have a four-year honours degree must demonstrate they have conducted a research project equivalent to 25% of a year’s full-time study at fourth-year, or masters level.
Applicants must also demonstrate the relevance of their research experience to their proposed topic of research.

Single Subject Study, Professional & Short courses
You can study individual MSLE subjects, even if you don’t have the formal qualifications to enter our courses. However, some subjects require you to have a suitable academic background before you can enrol, such as the completion of specific subject prerequisites. Refer to the University Handbook for entry requirements for your subject of interest.
